The Delheim Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is a flagship expression from the historic Simonsberg ward, crafted from the estate’s finest vineyard blocks. This classic Bordeaux-style blend reflects both the depth of Stellenbosch fruit and Delheim’s long-standing commitment to precision winemaking.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby-red color, opening with a complex bouquet of blackberry, blackcurrant, and cassis, layered with notes of tobacco, tomato leaf, and graphite (pencil shavings). On the palate, the wine is elegant and structured, with dark red fruit supported by smooth, chalky tannins that provide both grip and finesse. The finish is poised and persistent, showcasing the balance and age-worthy character typical of the Simonsberg.

The grapes were hand harvested in small batches from selected estate vineyards on the Simonsberg, rooted in decomposed granite soils with southwest-facing slopes that promote balanced ripening. After careful sorting, fermentation took place in a combination of open-top fermenters and stainless steel tanks, with punch-downs and pump-overs used to extract color, flavor, and tannin.
Following fermentation, the wine was matured for 18 months in 300L French oak barrels, allowing for integration and complexity. Only the finest barrels were selected for the Grand Reserve blend, ensuring depth, structure, and consistency in this flagship wine.
