Groot Constantia Lady of Abundance 2021 is a medium-bodied Constantia red blend shaped by the estate’s cool Atlantic influence and varied vineyard soils. The style favors balance and fruit clarity over weight, giving the wine a composed, food-friendly character with enough structure to develop further in bottle.
The nose opens with blackcurrant, plum, cherry, and pomegranate, followed by dark chocolate and subtle spice. The palate carries the same ripe berry profile, supported by polished tannins and measured oak that add shape without overwhelming the fruit. A smooth, lingering finish gives the wine broad appeal at the table. It would pair well with roast lamb, grilled beef, venison, tomato-based dishes, or mature cheeses.
This is a versatile red blend that is approachable now, while its balance and tannin structure should support several more years of cellaring.
The grapes were hand-harvested from vineyard sites across Constantia’s varied soils. Each component fermented separately in stainless steel tanks, with regular pump-overs used to build flavor, color, and structure. The wines then matured for 12 months in French oak, with only 10% new barrels used to preserve fruit purity and limit overt oak influence. Final blending took place after maturation to bring the individual components into balance.

Groot Constantia’s revered history tells us how a man’s love of wine established the first wine farm in South Africa. By going back 300 years, we come to understand how 891 morgen of land created the origins of the South African wine industry, and how every owner thereafter contributed to what we know as Groot Constantia today.
