Lanzerac Le Général 2022 is a limited-release Stellenbosch red blend built in a classic Cabernet-led mold, with the structure and polish associated with Left Bank Bordeaux but firmly rooted in South African fruit and site. As a barrel selection of the estate’s top Cabernet-based lots of the vintage, it sits at the more serious end of the Lanzerac range, offering both concentration and composure. This is a flagship-style wine made for drinkers who appreciate mature winemaking choices and a more traditional red blend profile.
The nose opens with vanilla, nutmeg, and a subtle thread of smoke before moving into blackcurrant, plum, and dark berry fruit on the palate. The texture is smooth but still firmly shaped, with well-managed tannins giving the wine its structure and length. There is plenty of richness here, yet the finish stays composed and long rather than heavy. It would pair especially well with roast beef, lamb, venison, or braised short ribs, and could also work with dark chocolate-based dishes for those who enjoy a more indulgent match at the table.
Still youthful, this is a wine with the balance and structure to drink well now with air, but it should continue to evolve positively over the coming years.

Crafted in a classic Left Bank style, each varietal was vinified and matured separately before blending to preserve its individual character and structural role in the final wine. The blend was aged for 20 months in a combination of new and second-fill 300L French oak barrels, giving the wine its layered spice, subtle smoke, and polished frame without overwhelming the fruit. This careful barrel selection approach supports both depth and balance in the finished blend.
