Uva Mira Mountain Vineyards Fox's Lair 2024 is a polished Stellenbosch red blend shaped by the cool slopes of the Helderberg. The wine combines ripe fruit with floral lift, savory detail, and finely judged structure, giving it a generous feel without sacrificing freshness or precision.
The nose opens with wild blackberry, ripe cranberry, fresh tobacco leaf, and pencil shavings, followed by delicate floral perfume as the wine develops in the glass. On the palate, a pure blackcurrant core is layered with dried herbs and graphite, supported by superfine tannins and bright acidity. A creamy texture adds breadth, while a subtle saline quality keeps the finish lifted and composed. It would pair especially well with roast lamb, beef, duck, or mushroom-based dishes.
This is an immediately approachable red blend with the balance and structure to develop well in bottle over the next decade.
The growing season was marked by a notably cold winter, above-average rainfall, and generally cool conditions, with 607 mm of winter rain and snow recorded on the Helderberg above the farm. A cool, wet budding period and relatively calm flowering conditions contributed to a challenging but high-quality season.
The wine matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, with 35% new oak used to add structure and subtle complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
