Description

Haute Cabrière Arnim Family Reserve 2022 is a Western Cape red blend that reflects the estate’s long-standing interest in pushing beyond convention. Framed as a pioneering blend, it brings together ripe red fruit, spice, and oak in a style that feels confident without becoming overworked. This is a wine built for drinkers who enjoy red blends with clear fruit definition, a measured structure, and a polished but approachable feel.

The nose shows rich color matched by intense aromas of red fruit and spice, with cedar notes adding a more savory edge. On the palate, the wine is layered and well composed, with balanced tannins giving it shape and grip without pushing too hard. The oak sits in support rather than in front, helping carry the fruit through a steady, satisfying finish. It would pair especially well with roast lamb, grilled beef, tomato-based pasta dishes, or earthy vegetarian plates where its fruit and spice can settle naturally into the meal.

Already very appealing, the 2022 vintage should drink well now while still holding enough structure for short- to mid-term cellaring.
At Haute Cabrière, the von Arnim family specializes in wines created from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varietals. This wine pays tribute to the versatility and history of Pinot Noir.

Winemaker: Tim Hoek
Cradled by mountains in the scenic Franschhoek valley, Cabrière is deeply rooted in history. The range of Pierre Jourdan wines produced on the estate honour the memory of French Huguenot Pierre Jourdan, who was granted the land on December 22, 1694. He named his property Cabrière, after the village he had fled from near Avignon, and planted the first vines.

Proprietor Achim von Arnim bought the land for the purpose of producing wine in the Champagne style, called Methodé Cap Classique or MCC in South Africa. An enthusiast whose lust for life is expressed in winegrowing. Achim says simply: “It was as if Cabrière had been waiting for me.”

Achim bought a second property, aptly named Haute Cabrière. The philosophy and speciality is producing wine exclusively from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The iconic Chardonnay Pinot Noir blend was a South African first, leading the market in a blend of these varietals.

Currently overseeing the wine-making is 2nd generation Cellar Master, Takuan von Arnim. He shares his father’s philosophy of the importance of terroir and the passion for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
