Description

In exceptional vintages, select barrels of Steenberg Merlot reveal remarkable fruit intensity, structure, and balance. This full-bodied wine showcases concentrated blackberries, currants, and plums with crème de cassis-like richness. Seamlessly integrated oak adds a subtle exotic spice perfume, enhancing depth and complexity. Designed to reward patience, it can be cellared for at least five years for a truly indulgent tasting experience.
Grown at the foot of Simonsberg on a unique single-site block, this Cabernet was handpicked at 6 tons/ha. We gently destemmed and hand-sorted the berries before fermenting in stainless steel and open-top fermenters with regular punch-downs. Aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak, the result is a wine of powerful structure, elegant acidity, and true Simonsberg finesse.

Tucked into the exquisite Knorhoek Valley north of Stellenbosch, Muratie Wine Estate, under the stewardship of Rijk Melck and his family, has been at the heart of a lot of passionate debate. This debate is centered largely around the desire to protect a century’s old wine experience that is a magnet for wine lovers around the world.
