Description

The Regna Loca Sémillon 2024 draws from one of Franschhoek’s most historic vineyards, where bush vines planted in 1905 continue to produce fruit of remarkable depth and character. Crafted by winemaker Kelsey Shungking, this wine honors the long legacy of Sémillon in the valley while expressing the clarity and balance of the 2024 vintage.

The nose opens with aromas of lemon peel and fresh citrus, joined by subtle dried fruit notes from a small portion of naturally mutated Sémillon Gris. On the palate, the wine is creamy yet precise, with vibrant acidity carrying flavors of citrus, orchard fruit, and delicate herbal complexity. Fermentation in amphora and oak barrels, followed by ten months of maturation, adds texture and quiet structure while preserving freshness. The finish is long, elegant, and quietly powerful.

Part of Rickety Bridge’s Regna Loca range, meaning “local kingdoms”, this series celebrates the natural bond between grape and place. In Franschhoek, old vine Sémillon stands as one of the valley’s most historic and noble expressions.

A wonderful pairing for butter-poached fish, roast chicken, creamy seafood pasta, or aged Comté and Gruyère.
Sourced from one of the oldest vineyards in Franschhoek, these bush vines were planted in 1905 and continue to produce fruit of remarkable depth and character. The vineyard is a mix of green, golden and lightly sun-kissed berries, each contributing layers of flavor. A small proportion is naturally mutated Sémillon Gris, lending subtle spice, gentle tannin and red fruit notes. Recently introduced irrigation has helped to extend the life of this historic block and secure its quality for future vintages.

The grapes, including the Sémillon Gris component, were 100% whole-bunch pressed before natural settling. Fermentation took place in a combination of amphora and barrels, followed by 10 months maturation.
Overlooking the Franschhoek River, Rickety Bridge combines old-world charm with contemporary precision. This historic estate produces expressive, fruit-driven wines that capture both depth and drinkability. Expect smooth Merlot, vibrant Sauvignon Blanc, and structured red blends that reflect Franschhoek’s elegance.
