The Regna Loca Cabernet Sauvignon 2024 is a poised and expressive example of Franschhoek Cabernet, crafted by winemaker Kelsey Shungking. Rooted in the sandstone soils of the valley’s mountain slopes, the wine reflects the balance and concentration of the 2024 vintage.
Aromatic notes of cassis and ripe plum unfold alongside dried herbs, bay leaf, and a subtle graphite edge. On the palate, layered tannins and refined structure bring depth and precision, while 18 months in French oak adds polish without overshadowing the fruit. The finish is long, elegant, and quietly powerful.
Part of Rickety Bridge’s Regna Loca range, meaning “local kingdoms”, this series celebrates the connection between grape and place, pairing each region with the cultivar that expresses it best.
An excellent companion for grilled ribeye, herb-crusted lamb, roasted mushrooms, or aged cheddar.

The 2024 vintage in Franschhoek was shaped by a cool, wet winter in 2023, providing ample water reserves for the growing season. Summer brought warm, dry, and windy conditions, keeping disease pressure low
but making irrigation essential in January. While yields were reduced, the
resulting fruit displayed exceptional concentration, purity and balance –
ideal for producing structured, expressive Cabernet Sauvignon.
The fruit was destemmed and kept as whole berries to preserve integrity and enhance purity of fruit expression. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with gentle punch-downs three times daily for balanced extraction. Post-fermentation, the wine was pressed and matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, with 30% matured in new wood.
