The Regna Loca Chenin Blanc 2025 reflects the distinctive character of Swartland’s old dryland bushvines, where deep-rooted vines grow in granite and shale soils under warm sunshine and cooling coastal influences. Crafted by winemaker Kelsey Shungking, this wine captures both the power and precision of the region’s most celebrated grape.
Aromas of white peach, ripe stone fruit, and fresh lime lift from the glass, followed by a palate shaped by wet stone minerality and vibrant natural acidity. Fermentation in a combination of amphora and oak barrels adds texture and complexity while preserving Chenin’s bright fruit expression. The result is a wine that feels both lively and layered, finishing long, clean, and refreshing.
Part of Rickety Bridge’s Regna Loca range, meaning “local kingdoms”, this series celebrates the natural pairing between region and cultivar. In Swartland, Chenin Blanc has long held the crown.
An excellent partner for grilled prawns, roast chicken with lemon and herbs, sushi, or creamy goat cheese dishes.

The 2025 vintage was marked by record-breaking winter rainfall, replenishing soil moisture reserves ahead of the growing season. A dry spring and summer kept disease pressure low, while cooler ripening conditions throughout harvest allowed for slow, even fruit development. The result was grapes of exceptional balance, purity, and aromatic intensity.
The grapes were 100% whole-bunch pressed before undergoing natural settling. Fermentation took place in a combination of amphora and barrels, adding texture and complexity while preserving the wine’s varietal expression. The wine matured for 10 months.
