Bold and expressive, the Afrikaans Vol. VII Red Blend 2023 from Stellenbosch pours a deep ruby hue and opens with intense aromas of black cherries, cassis, and dark chocolate, layered with elegant cedar spice. On the palate, it delivers a full-bodied experience with ripe, structured tannins and refined acidity. Juicy mulberries and blueberries are complemented by notes of pencil shavings and the soft red plum character of Cinsault. This is a serious, cellar-worthy wine with a long, focused cassis-driven finish—crafted for those who appreciate powerful South African red blends with finesse.
Sourced from premium Stellenbosch vineyards, our Cabernet Sauvignon and Cinsault were fermented separately in open-top fermenters with gentle punch-downs four times daily for optimal flavor and tannin extraction. After maceration, the Cabernet was matured in 300L seasoned French oak, and the Cinsault in 500L barrels for 12 months—each varietal treated with care to preserve purity, structure, and elegance in the final blend.

Jean Engelbrecht, owner of the prestigious Stellenbosch estate winery Rust en Vrede becomes philosophical when he speaks about one of his favourite subjects. “Wine brings people together,” he explains. “When you share a glass of wine with someone it brings you closer. It helps to improve communication between people. Wine builds bridges.” The wine is named after the language, and aims to celebrate the language without baggage. Head Rust en Vrede winemaker Coenie Snyman uses only superb quality grapes for Afrikaans. The result is a high-quality wine.
