This Rhône-inspired blend opens with deep, concentrated aromas of ripe plum, intertwined with the spicy warmth of black pepper and a savory hint of olive tapenade. Layers of umami richness lend an intriguing depth to the bouquet, inviting exploration. On the palate, bold flavors of dark berry and plum unfold with a velvety texture, balanced by a lively acidity that keeps the wine fresh and vibrant. Fine-grained tannins provide structure, supporting the wine’s generous body and enhancing its layered complexity. The finish is long and satisfying, marked by a blend of earthy spice and subtle smokiness that speaks to its refined character and aging potential.
Fermented in large foudres and stainless steel tanks. Maturation took place in 25% new wood and 75% second and third-fill French oak barrels for 14 months.

Winemaker: Jean-Claude Martin
When in 2002 Jean-Claude (JC) and Carolyn Martin took up the challenge of establishing a winery in a remote corner of the Walker Bay Wine Region, they did so with the courage of their conviction.
The 40 hectares of undulating land on the lofty Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge had never been planted to vines before, but recognizing the vast potential, they set out with tenacity and determination to transform it into a model wine farm.
No easy feat, but then the Swiss-born JC and South African-born Carolyn (née Finlayson) both come from wine pioneering stock spanning at least three generations and two continents!
