De Morgenzon 'Maestro' Red Blend 2021 is a beautifully composed Stellenbosch red that brings together the elegance of cassis and perfumed red fruits with layers of complexity. On the nose, rich plum, dried herbs, and hints of spice unfold alongside floral undertones. The palate is silky and well-rounded, revealing notes of black fruit and subtle cigar box, with polished tannins and seamless oak integration. This is a harmonious, expressive blend crafted for both immediate enjoyment and graceful aging—an ideal choice for collectors and red wine lovers alike.
Our Maestro Red Blend is crafted from Stellenboschkloof vineyards rooted in ancient weathered granite, giving the wine natural vitality and structure. The 2017 vintage delivered pristine fruit thanks to a dry growing season and cool evening temperatures, enhancing concentration and freshness. We hand-sort the berries and allow wild fermentation to unfold naturally. After a two-week maceration, the wine is gently pressed and matured for 18 months in French oak barrels and foudres before bottling, unfiltered and unfined.

De Morgenzon, ‘the morning sun,’ was so named as it is the first part of the Stellenboschkloof valley to see the sun because of its high altitude and aspects. Their slopes rise from about 200m to nearly 400m above sea level and their vistas embrace Cape Town, Table Mountain, Cape Point, Cape Hangklip, the Hottentots Holland mountains, Helderberg and Simonsberg with the ocean as a backdrop. The reputation of Wendy and Hylton Applebaum’s estate continues its ascent - one regularly marked by genuinely prestigious international and local awards.
