A Classic Constantia Cabernet Sauvignon with depth and finesse, the 2022 vintage opens with concentrated aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and plum, layered with cassis. Fifteen months in 225L French oak barrels lend cedarwood, subtle spice, and pencil-shaving nuances. On the palate, refined tannins and balanced acidity frame elegant dark fruit flavors, leading to a poised, age-worthy finish. This Stellenbosch-grown wine showcases terroir-driven complexity and cellar potential.
Our 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the cool Constantia climate and the unique soils of our north- and east-facing vineyards. Hand-harvested grapes were fermented in stainless steel with daily pump-overs, then left on skins for four weeks to enhance structure and depth. Malolactic fermentation followed in tank before 14 months of aging in 225L French oak barrels—34% new—bringing balance, fine tannins, and refined complexity to this expressive, age-worthy red.

Groot Constantia’s revered history tells us how a man’s love of wine established the first wine farm in South Africa. By going back 300 years, we come to understand how 891 morgen of land created the origins of the South African wine industry, and how every owner thereafter contributed to what we know as Groot Constantia today.
