Initially, red fruit aromatics, then a blend of spicy, cedary oak, classic cigar box and wood vanilla aromas lift from the glass. The palate entry is rich and rounded but settles to an elegant mid-palate showing a brightness of fruit and finishes with fine-grained tannins. Decanting 2-3 hrs prior to service is recommended should the wine be consumed prior to December 2022.
This limited volume wine represents a single vineyard block where Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes grow side by side in deep red Tukulu soil.

Carl Schultz, the cellarmaster, graduated as Dux student in 1988 from Elsenburg. He joined Hartenberg Estate as Winemaker in 1994. The Estate first came to prominence in the late 1970s under the label, producing top-end Shiraz. Today the property produces three highly regarded examples of this grape.
