After being hand-sorted, destemmed and only lightly crushed, the grapes remained in a tank for three days of cool maceration, before fermentation started through natural yeasts. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, as well as a French oak barrels. The wine was matured in 300 liter French oak barrels of which about 15% were new. Only the best 14 barrels were selected for the final blend.

Established in 1992 by Mauritian-born Marc Wiehe, L'Avenir estate has deep roots tracing back to the era of Simon van der Stel, when the land was first cultivated for vines. Quickly ascending to iconic status, L'Avenir made waves with its 1997 Chenin Blanc, which clinched the top spot in the Chenin Blanc Challenge. By 2004, L'Avenir repeatedly featuring among the top ten in the prestigious annual Top Ten Pinotage Competition.
Following a merger with Chablis-based Laroche and the Jeanjean family, L'Avenir became part of AdVini, a renowned family-owned wine producer with a focus on France and a footprint in Africa in the form of L’Avenir.
Despite L’Avenir Estate only having been established in 1992, our soils have been under vine since the beginning of the Stellenbosch wine region. The majority of our vineyards have reached full maturity, resulting in naturally limited yields of the highest quality grapes.
