Dark, rich fruit and an intense floral perfume leap from the glass. Complex aromas of violets and white blossoms blend with concentrated blueberry, vanilla, and dark chocolate. The wine offers a bold, full-bodied palate as rich as the nose suggests—intense blackberry and blueberry are layered with dark chocolate, tobacco leaf, and toast.
Partial whole-bunch fermentation adds a savory spiciness, while lively acidity balances the robust tannins, giving the wine both power and structure. Bold blueberry and toast notes on the finish hint at strong aging potential.

Estate grown grapes are hand-harvested and partially destemmed, with 25% of the grapes kept as whole bunches. Fermentation takes place in open-top fermenters with manual punch-downs and pump-overs performed 2 to 4 times daily. Maceration continues for 14 to 21 days. Parcels and clones are vinified separately. Wine is matured in 500L French oak barrels for 16 months using a combination of 20% new and 80% seasoned oak.

For 315 years Rust en Vrede has stood peacefully among the vineyards of Stellenbosch. The company and the estate is now headed up by Jean Engelbrecht and their family have specialized in producing only red wine with the focus on Shiraz, Cabernet and Merlot.
The underground cellar of the estate was the first of its kind for a privately owned South African winery. Designed by renowned architect Mr Gawie Fagan, the perfectly temperature controlled environment is of invaluable benefit to the production and bottle maturation of unique wines.
Rust en Vrede is a remarkable example of exquisite landscaping. At home and abroad, this unassuming Stellenbosch Estate has made a name for itself far beyond its modest, but infinitely charming, 55 hectares.
