Aromas of preserved pear, mango and nougat play on the nose. Ripe citrus is normally a signature of this block, and is present at a more subtle level in 2017. The balance of the palate is sweet with a long, clean finish. Structurally light, the high concentration of ripe fruit flavors and residual sugar is offset with a degree of oak aging complexity, and the exotic spice flavors from a late harvest date.
Will pair beautifully with roasted pork, creamy pasta, salmon, poultry, mild Thai dishes, and semi-soft cheeses.
Ratings/Accolades:
(2014) Bob Campbell: 95 points

The 2017 growing season was kind with moderate well-spaced rainfall and good growing conditions. The restricted crop off our Envoy block enjoyed an extended hang time, and picked up a small percentage of noble rot after late season rain. Further ripening resulted in shriveled berries with concentrated juice.
In the 1990's, deep in the Waihopai Valley, Bryan and Jan Johnson established 320 acres of estate vineyards on land considered too hard, too dry and too unfertile for wine. It was a venture that started with a passion for the land. This pioneering spirit established one of New Zealand’s most successful boutique family-run wineries, now exporting eight varietals to 35 countries, from a crush capacity of 3000 tonnes.
Today, Spy Valley’s commitment remains to the land and to the people who tend it, and their focus is on sustainability which will ensure the guardianship of this land for generations to come. The name ‘Spy Valley’ comes from the wineries proximity to the spy base located down the road.
