The Steenberg Merlot 2022 expresses the elegance of a cool-climate Merlot, with soft dark fruit, plum, liquorice, and mulberry notes lifted by lively acidity. Aromas of cedarwood and lavender lead to a rich palate of raspberry preserve, clove, and subtle umami. Velvety tannins and a balanced, dry finish provide structure and depth. Medium to full-bodied, it pairs beautifully with braised meats, tomato-based stews, mature cheeses, and briny olives. Enjoy now or cellar for 5–7 years.
Grapes were carefully cropped and harvested at 24–25°B, with 15% free-run juice set aside for enhanced color and flavor. Fermented on skins for 10–14 days at up to 28°C, the wine underwent malolactic conversion before aging 24 months in 3rd-fill and older 225L French oak barrels. Lightly fined, it was bottled in August 2024, resulting in a structured, elegant Merlot with depth and finesse.
