Offering a delightful blend of dried summer fruit aromas and a mineral edge, this Chenin Blanc captures the essence of Stellenbosch’s older vineyards. Each sip reveals a richly layered, concentrated mouthfeel, enhanced by notes of green fig and an elegantly textured body. Concrete egg fermentation and maturation impart complexity, preserving the purity of the Chenin Blanc fruit. The mild acidity and fruity aromatics create a harmonious balance with spicy undertones, making it a versatile pairing for creamy, nutty dishes while showcasing the wine’s vibrant yet refined character.
The wine is made up from using 2 different “old vine” vineyards in Stellenbosch. The oldest was planted in 1966 and the second one was planted in 1974. Both vineyards are bush vines, which add great complexity to Chenin blanc.
Good winter rains but still below the long-term average. We experienced a few odd warm days during winter, as well as snowfall during late winter / early. The rain helped the increase of dam levels.
These conditions also prepped for good, even budding to start the growing season. During ripening, an odd heat wave was experienced. Overall lovely warm days and cooler nights allowed for perfect ripening and earlier picking dates. This results in lovely fresh flavored and rich wines with relatively low alcohol levels.
