Distinctive and aromatic, the 2024 Bouchard Finlayson Blanc de Mer is a unique Cape white blend led by Riesling—an uncommon varietal in South African blends. Inspired by the estate’s proximity to Walker Bay, this wine is bright and ocean-kissed, with vibrant aromas of rosewater, tangerine, and orange blossom. The palate unfolds with layers of fresh apple, dried apricot, pickled ginger, and a whisper of sea salt. Refreshing yet textured, it finishes with balance and finesse as the Riesling component adds depth and character.
The 2024 vintage brought intense rain early in the season, but ideal conditions returned just in time for harvest. Estate-grown Riesling led the blend, supported by ripe, expressive Viognier from Paarl and a touch of whole-bunch pressed, unoaked Chardonnay. All grapes were destemmed and cool-fermented in stainless steel to preserve purity and freshness. Despite a smaller crop, the fruit was concentrated and vibrant, resulting in a crisp, textural white blend with striking aromatics and coastal energy.
