This is Martinborough Pinot at its most expressive. The Butterworth Te Muna Estate 2018 opens with lifted notes of rose petal, wild raspberry, and blackberry, layered with cinnamon, nutmeg, and a hint of lavender. Beneath the perfume lies a grounding earthiness that speaks to its place — the famed Te Muna Road, where cool nights and stony soils craft wines of precision and depth.
On the palate, it’s vibrant and spicy with a fine mineral thread running straight through, framed by supple, silky tannins. There’s energy, balance, and a lingering finish that invites another sip.
Enjoy it with roast duck, seared salmon, or wild mushroom risotto — dishes that echo its elegance while letting the wine’s complexity shine.

The grapes were destemmed, then gently fermented and macerated in up to 2.2T lots for at least 20 to 25 days. The fermenters were drained and pressed to French oak barriques, with topping occurring every week with the wines on full ferment yeast lees.
The barrels were selected and combined for a rest period. A light filtration before bottling ensures the stability of the wine.

Originally planted as an olive grove by founder Wim, the Te Muna site quickly proved too cool for olives — but perfect for world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Its demanding conditions give rise to wines of remarkable depth and minerality.
When local icons like Ata Rangi sought out Wim’s fruit, it confirmed the vineyard’s pedigree. After crafting a few vintages under his own label, the estate passed to Brad and Warren Butterworth, who saw in it the same pursuit of excellence that defined Brad’s America’s Cup career.
Today, with winemaker Martin Bell at the helm, Butterworth Estate continues to honor its roots — producing elegant, small-lot wines that reflect Martinborough’s unique terroir and a legacy built on passion, precision, and perseverance.
