It is intense and concentrated, yet beautifully balanced with an alluringly perfumed nose showing vibrant aromatics of red cherries, blackberry fruit, pepper spice and black olives. Multidimensional and multilayered, the palate delivers a textured mouthfeel with silky smooth tannins and a fresh and satisfying finish. It shows excellent purity of fruit and elegance with great texture, complexity and structure, as well as having outstanding cellaring potential.
With its terroir of Firgrove, Stellenbosch, Voor Paardeberg and Agter Paarl, The Ellerman 2018 gives the very best expression of the terroir from which the grapes are sourced, resulting in a wine that is complex and expressive.

Winemaker: Erika Obermeyer
Growing up on her family’s sheep farm near Sutherland in the arid Karoo she spent hours exploring the veld with her canine companion. With a passion for the outdoors combined with an affinity for Maths and Science Erika had her sights set on studying medicine and enrolled for a Bachelor of Science degree at Stellenbosch University. It was here that the wine bug bit.
After graduating from Stellenbosch University with a BSc and BSc Honours in Wine Biotechnology in 1998 she was appointed as Assistant Winemaker at Kleine Zalze in Stellenbosch in 1999. Completing harvest tenures in Sancerre St Emilion and Beziers France she gained an appreciation for the balance and elegance of the wines of these regions.
Following her time at Kleine Zalze she accepted a winemaker position at Graham Beck Wines in 2005. After a brief stint under the mentorship of Charles Hopkins then-Cellar Master at Franschhoek, Erika found herself the sole winemaker in a world class cellar and living her dream.
Drawing on her extensive training and rewarding career as a winemaker and marketer with invaluable experience locally and abroad, she took a leap of faith and started her own label in 2016 and that is how Erika Obermeyer came to start her own winery and brand.
