Elegant yet powerful, Fairview’s Lanner Hill Syrah 2022 is a cool-climate expression of Syrah that radiates purity and finesse. In the glass, it reveals a youthful ruby hue and aromas of red cherry, ripe berries, and dark plum, lifted by subtle hints of oak spice and a touch of wild fynbos. The palate is bold yet refined—juicy dark fruit layered with well-integrated oak, supported by a fresh, firm tannin structure. With recommended cellaring of up to 5 years, this is a wine that promises to evolve beautifully. Perfectly suited for pairing with beef fillet or spice-laced Cape Malay curries.
Each block was handpicked at peak ripeness across several days to ensure precision and purity. After gentle destemming and fermentation in both stainless steel and open-top foudres, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and spent 16 months in 15% new French and seasoned American oak. This careful oak regimen softens Pinotage’s bold tannins, revealing its rich, rewarding character.

Fairview is a working farm, housing a collection of micro-businesses all sharing in a common goal – to create artisanal and sustainable produce, with a focus on fine wine and cheese. Everything they do is driven by their philosophy of being honest, honoring their heritage and ensuring their ingenuity. Eager to explore a wider range of wines using grapes grown in optimal conditions, Charles Back abandoned the estate wine concept in the 1980s, choosing rather to “go where the terroir is”. Today, they are one of the few farms that proudly own all their own vineyards, with land in Paarl, Darling, Swartland and Stellenbosch.
