The Regna Loca Palomino 2025 is a tribute to one of South Africa’s historic grape varieties, sourced from old bush vines planted in 1966 high on the rugged slopes of Piekenierskloof Pass. Here, cold winters, hot summers, and wind-swept vineyards create a distinctive environment that brings both freshness and quiet concentration to the wine. Crafted by winemaker Kelsey Shungking, this expression reflects both heritage and place.
The nose reveals aromas of dried hay, honeybush, and wet stone, hinting at the vineyard’s wild landscape. On the palate, gentle salinity meets notes of ripe pear, peach, and green apple, supported by bright acidity and subtle texture. Fermentation in seasoned 500L French oak barrels adds depth without overshadowing the purity of the fruit. The finish is smooth and lingering, with delicate hints of spice and nuttiness.
Part of Rickety Bridge’s Regna Loca range, meaning “local kingdoms”, this collection pairs each region with the cultivar that best expresses its terroir. In Piekenierskloof, these historic Palomino vines tell a story of resilience and rediscovery.
A thoughtful pairing for grilled seafood, salt-baked fish, tapas, or roasted almonds and Manchego cheese.

Sourced from old bush vines planted in 1966 at the top of the Piekenierskloof Pass, where winters are cold and summers hot. Large bunches carried a balanced mix of green, yellow and lightly sun-kissed berries, each contributing unique flavor nuances. The site’s pristine terroir and healthy vines yield grapes with exceptional
concentration, salinity and complexity.
Grapes were harvested based on optimal sugar levels and 100% whole-bunch pressed. After natural settling, fermentation took place in seasoned 500L French oak barrels, allowing the varietal’s subtle character to express itself with purity.
