Embodying the essence of Waterford Estate’s philosophy, this wine showcases the rich diversity of the vineyard’s exceptional fruit. Aromas of dark chocolate and ripe plum draw you in, layered with earthy undertones, clove spice, crushed violets, and a medley of dark and red berries. The palate mirrors these inviting aromatics, balanced beautifully with velvety tannins that add a lush fullness, while a natural acidity brings vibrance and elegance to the extended finish. With a classic dry profile, this wine offers generous texture and depth, a tribute to its Stellenbosch heritage and timeless sophistication.
In the drought and heat of the 2016 vintage, Waterford Estate’s vineyards benefited from the cooling effect of the nearby ocean and their location on the Helderberg mountain. The resulting light bunches and tiny berries yielded rich flavors and vibrant colors in the red wines. Despite lower acidity due to the heat, our cellar team skillfully crafted elegant and balanced wines, highlighting the exceptional performance of the red varietals.
