Exuding classical Cabernet character, this wine greets with aromas of earthy undertones, cold stone, and rich blackcurrant, capturing the distinct personality of the Helderberg mountain’s higher slopes. Delicate hints of mint and tea-leaf add a refined complexity, while subtle notes of soft cinnamon and cigar box oak create a warm, rounded bouquet. On the palate, a purity of fruit shines through, balanced by the dry, tight tension that defines a well-structured Cabernet Sauvignon, delivering both depth and an elegant finish.
A vintage that will be remembered for drought and heat. Luckily for Waterford’s location on the Helderberg mountain and the proximity to the ocean, the vineyards could cool down overnight. The lack of water resulted in light bunches with tiny berries, great for red wine color and flavor. The heat also resulted in wines being lower in acidity. Red wines performed exceptionally well.
