Classic and refined, the 2016 Waterford Estate Cellar Collection Cabernet Sauvignon captures the essence of Stellenbosch’s Helderberg slopes. Earthy tones, cold stone, and rich blackcurrant lead the nose, lifted by hints of mint, tea leaf, cinnamon, and cigar box oak. The palate reveals focused fruit purity, wrapped in firm, dry tannins and a structured tension that speaks to its aging potential. A beautifully balanced South African Cabernet with depth, elegance, and distinctive Helderberg character.
The 2016 vintage brought intense heat and drought, but our Helderberg vineyards—cooled by ocean breezes—thrived under pressure. Small berries and light bunches delivered concentrated color and flavor, ideal for structured, expressive red wines. While acidity was naturally lower, the vintage produced bold, beautifully balanced Cabernet with remarkable depth. This is a year that tested the vines—and delivered something truly special in return.

Waterford Estate was established in 1998 with the intention of producing the very best wines in the country. Being based on the Helderberg Mountain, in Stellenbosch, the Estate excels in producing Red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, the main two blending components in their Flagship The Jem. They chose to use only half of the total 120 hectares of their land for the planting of vines in order to preserve and protect the natural fauna and flora. The Waterford Way is a philosophy that celebrates prosperity, life, food, wine, family and friends, and guides all that they do at Waterford Estate.
