Drawing on more than two decades of excellence, this Cabernet Sauvignon has matured into an exceptional expression of the Helderberg Mountains terroir. With pure fruit layered over subtle earthiness and refined pencil lead aromas, it captivates from the first sip. The dry tannin structure is both classic and balanced, leading to a smooth, lingering finish. The 2017 vintage, shaped by Stellenbosch’s dry season, stands out as one of the finest of the decade, delivering a depth and complexity that honors both the region and the skillful hands behind its creation.
This was the 3rd year of drought in the Western Cape, which was very noticeable in the natural mountain vegetation and low dam levels. Low winter rains but followed by near-perfect growing conditions, moderate temperatures, and lack of heat waves during harvest.
The vineyards remained very healthy and produced lovely bunches, smaller than usual berries giving great concentration. The wine is extremely classical in style, with tight tannin structures and lovely acidities. Reds are going to be great talking points in the future. This wine spent 19 months in barrel (36% new French (225L) oak barrels.
