Rich, structured, and deeply expressive, the Groot Constantia Gouverneur’s Reserve Red Blend 2021 showcases the elegance of one of South Africa’s oldest estates. Aromas of ripe plum, black cherry, and blackberry lead into layers of dark chocolate and subtle tobacco. On the palate, bold black fruit is beautifully integrated with refined oak, fresh acidity, and firm yet polished tannins. A classic, cellar-worthy red blend with depth, balance, and timeless appeal.
Handpicked at optimal ripeness, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel with regular pump-overs for full flavor extraction. After four weeks on the skins and malolactic fermentation, the wine matured for 15 months in 225L French oak barrels—75% new—for depth and structure. Expertly blended and bottled, this red blend reflects both modern precision and classic Constantia character.

Groot Constantia’s revered history tells us how a man’s love of wine established the first wine farm in South Africa. By going back 300 years, we come to understand how 891 morgen of land created the origins of the South African wine industry, and how every owner thereafter contributed to what we know as Groot Constantia today.
