Blaauwklippen Brut MCC Zinfandel 2023 from the Coastal Region is a distinctive and characterful sparkling wine with depth, freshness, and refined complexity. The nose opens with plush sour cherry and vibrant cranberry, layered with notes of liquorice, dark chocolate, cinnamon, and allspice, while delicate floral hints add elegance and lift. On the palate, this MCC is savoury and textured, with chalky tannins and a mineral-driven mid-palate that give it structure and individuality. The finish is fresh and focused, lingering with subtle hints of tobacco that add further intrigue. Bold yet poised, Blaauwklippen Brut MCC Zinfandel 2023 is a memorable South African sparkling wine for those who enjoy layered flavours and a more complex, food-friendly style.
The grapes were sourced from vineyards on our farm and from a Wellington site. The Stellenbosch blocks (planted 1991 and 2001) are planted wide (2,5m x 1,4m) on medium potential soils namely Tukulu and Kroonstad, with a seven-wire Vertical Shoot Positioning (VSP) trellis system using drip irrigation.
Both vineyards are around 90m above sea level. The Wellington site is planted wide (2.7m x 1.5m) on Klapmuts soil and is around 180m above sea level. Annual production varies between 6 to 8 tons per hectare
