The Simonsig Pick of the Bunch Pinotage 2024 celebrates the estate’s deep connection to South Africa’s signature grape. Pinotage has been part of Simonsig’s story since the beginning — it was the first red wine released by the estate in 1971, and today remains a defining expression of their Stellenbosch vineyards.
This wine opens with vibrant aromas of ripe plum, raspberry, and red berry fruit, complemented by subtle notes of vanilla, gentle oak spice, and a touch of savory complexity. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and fruit-driven, with juicy red fruit flavors supported by soft, grainy tannins that provide structure without heaviness. The finish is fresh and lingering, highlighting the naturally expressive fruit character that makes Pinotage so distinctive.
Approachable and versatile, this Pinotage pairs beautifully with hearty pasta dishes, Wagyu burgers, game meats such as ostrich, pizza, and traditional South African braai dishes.
Cellaring Potential: Enjoy now or cellar for 5–8 years.

The grapes were hand harvested and carefully sorted before being destemmed and transferred to fermentation tanks. A two-day cold maceration was carried out prior to fermentation to enhance color and fruit expression. During fermentation, extraction was managed through a combination of pump-overs and punch-downs, with a total skin contact of 6–7 days before pressing.
Fermentation was completed in tank, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks to soften the wine and integrate its texture. Most of the wine was matured in tank to preserve its vibrant fruit character, while a small portion was aged in older oak barrels for 6–8 months before the final blend was assembled.
