Vibrant dark fruit, earthy notes, and clove and pepper spice lead the aromatics of this Stellenbosch Shiraz, accompanied by soft licorice undertones. Natural acidity and classic granular tannins are very characteristic of the voluptuous nature of a Stellenbosch Shiraz.

Kevin Arnold is a single-label brand that was first released in 1999 with the 1998 Kevin Arnold Shiraz. Each vintage is dedicated to one of the Ord and Arnold children, with their name carried on the label.

Planted on the rockiest sandstone slopes of Waterford Estate in 2005, this vineyard experienced a slightly shortened winter due to an early rise in temperatures. The growing season remained warm and dry, bringing the harvest dates slightly forward. Moderate to cool conditions during ripening resulted in wines with expressive aromatics and flavors. This vintage produced exceptional white and red wines that are classic in style, with tight, dry tannin structures that give them excellent aging potential.

No new wood is used in the making of this wine. Whole-berry ferments and gentle extraction methods, using pump-overs only, help bring out the purity of the wine.

Waterford Estate was established in 1998 with the intention of producing the very best wines in the country. Being based on the Helderberg Mountain, in Stellenbosch, the Estate excels in producing Red wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, the main two blending components in their Flagship The Jem. They chose to use only half of the total 120 hectares of their land for the planting of vines in order to preserve and protect the natural fauna and flora.
