Description

La Petite Ferme Baboon Rock Chardonnay 2025 is a bright, stainless steel-fermented Franschhoek Chardonnay that leans into freshness, citrus lift, and early-drinking appeal. Rather than pushing oak or weight, it focuses on clarity of fruit and a clean, zesty line, making it a useful reminder of how well Chardonnay can perform in a more direct, fruit-led style. For drinkers who prefer white wines with energy and definition, this is an easy wine to like.

Lemon and lime lead on the nose and carry onto the palate, where tropical fruit broadens the wine without taking away from its crisp profile. The acidity is lively and lingering, giving the wine a mouthwatering finish and the kind of shape that makes it especially comfortable with grilled fish, chicken salads, sushi, or lighter pasta dishes. There is a youthful brightness to it now, but the wine’s fresh structure suggests it should become more settled and expressive with a little time in bottle.

Made in a clean, unoaked style, this is a Chardonnay that favors purity, refreshment, and versatility at the table.
The grapes were picked between 22.0 and 22.5 Balling, an approach that helps preserve freshness and natural acidity. Fermentation took place cold in stainless steel tanks, with the clear intention of maintaining the wine’s bright fruit profile, crisp texture, and lively finish.

Situated on the side of the majestic Middagkrans Mountains of the magnificent Franschhoek Valley, the west-facing La Petite Ferme is one of the more intimate wineries in the Cape Winelands.

More than 300 years ago, when the Huguenots arrived, they brought with them their age-old French wine and food culture. Theses amazing vineyards that cover these mountain slopes boast a valley rich in history and are centered on a picturesque village of warm and friendly people.

After the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in France in 1685, when Protestantism was outlawed, hundreds of so-called Huguenots fled their homeland, 277 of them arriving by ship at the Cape of Good Hope. Many of them were given land by the Dutch government in a valley called Oliphantshoek (Elephant Corner) - so named because of the vast herds of elephants that roamed the area. Soon after they settled here, it becomes known as Franschhoek (French Corner).' Most of the wineries in Franschhoek still have their original French names and the homesteads are all Cape Dutch with gorgeous Oaks and luscious vineyards.

La Petite Ferme, situated in Franschhoek, arguably the most historic, beautiful and captivating town in the Cape Winelands, promises each guest an unforgettable experience. Just an hour’s drive from Cape Town you will find the unique tranquillity, luxury and warmth of La Petite Ferme. A destination for all local and international guests, offering award-winning cuisine, wines and accommodation.
