Description

Mont Rochelle Miko 2023 is a full-bodied Franschhoek red blend made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, produced only in selected vintages. The wine is intended as a focused expression of the estate’s terroir, with minimal cellar intervention allowing the character of the fruit and vineyard to remain at the center of the style.

The nose shows cassis, dark berries, and red fruit, layered with subtle floral and perfumed notes. On the palate, Cabernet Sauvignon brings darker fruit and structure, while Cabernet Franc contributes fresher red fruit and a softer floral character. The combination gives the wine both weight and lift, with a youthful profile that should gain greater harmony as it develops in bottle. It would pair especially well with roast lamb, grilled beef, venison, or slow-cooked meat dishes.

This is a structured, cellar-worthy red blend with the concentration and balance to evolve over several years.

Ratings/Accolades:
Gilbert & Gilliard: Double Gold
Miko is produced only in exceptional vintages and is made in honor of the late Miko Rwayitare. The cellar approach emphasizes minimal intervention, allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc components to reflect the character of Mont Rochelle’s Franschhoek vineyards as directly as possible. No further fermentation, maturation, or oak details were provided.
