Description

Cape Of Good Hope Serruria Chardonnay 2025 is an Overberg white built around freshness, restraint, and fine texture. Fruit from four vineyards brings layered citrus and stone fruit character, while spontaneous barrel fermentation and partial malolactic fermentation add breadth without overwhelming the wine’s natural acidity.

The nose opens with nectarine, limestone, orange peel, and a subtle vanilla biscuit note. On the palate, lime and orange bring immediate energy and brightness before the wine broadens into a creamy, lightly nutty texture. Oak, fruit, and acidity remain in balance throughout, leading to a persistent finish that is detailed rather than forceful. It would pair especially well with grilled fish, roast chicken, shellfish, or creamy vegetable dishes.

This is a composed, quietly expressive Chardonnay that is drinking well now but should continue to develop over the next several years.
Fruit from four vineyards was hand-harvested into small lug boxes and transported to the cellar under refrigeration. The grapes were whole-bunch pressed, and the juice settled overnight without enzymes before being transferred to 300L French oak barrels, 24% of them new, for spontaneous fermentation.

The wine matured for 10 months on the gross lees, with 30% of the total volume undergoing malolactic fermentation before final blending and bottling.

Winemaker: Mark van Buuren
Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm L’Ormarins in Franschhoek. Originally owned by the late Anthonij Rupert, who passed away in 2001, the farm was taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility on the estate, and the beginnings of what was to become a sprawling enterprise with a focus on terroir specific wines.
