Description

Creation Viognier 2025 is a cool-climate Walker Bay white that shows the variety in a fresher, more finely drawn style than many broader examples. Planted on south-facing slopes, it balances Viognier’s natural stone-fruit richness with lively acidity and a mineral edge, giving the wine both generosity and lift. This is a polished, expressive white that feels aromatic and rounded without losing its sense of line.

The nose opens with juicy peach and ripe pear, with a subtle floral character that brings to mind spring growth and fynbos. On the palate, apricot and stone fruit lead, supported by a refreshing minerality and a natural acidity that keeps the wine bright and energetic. The texture is silky and rounded, but the finish remains crisp and composed rather than heavy. It would work beautifully as an aperitif, while also pairing naturally with creamy pasta, roast chicken, or lighter poultry dishes where its fruit and freshness can settle into the meal.

Already highly appealing, this is a Viognier made for youthful enjoyment, though its balance and lees work should allow it to hold nicely over the near term.
The grapes were harvested early and pressed, a decision that helps preserve freshness and natural acidity in the finished wine. Fermentation took place in stainless steel, followed by 3 to 4 months of lees aging to build a rounded mouthfeel and added texture without relying on oak. No malolactic fermentation was allowed, keeping the wine bright, clean, and true to its cool-climate Walker Bay character.

Winemaker: Jean-Claude Martin
When in 2002 Jean-Claude (JC) and Carolyn Martin took up the challenge of establishing a winery in a remote corner of the Walker Bay Wine Region, they did so with the courage of their conviction.

The 40 hectares of undulating land on the lofty Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge had never been planted to vines before, but recognizing the vast potential, they set out with tenacity and determination to transform it into a model wine farm.

No easy feat, but then the Swiss-born JC and South African-born Carolyn (née Finlayson) both come from wine pioneering stock spanning at least three generations and two continents!
