Delaire Graff The Banghoek 2021 is a Stellenbosch red built in a classic Bordeaux-inspired frame, where structure, floral lift, and savory detail matter as much as fruit weight. It is a wine shaped by restraint rather than excess, with oak used to support the wine’s architecture and perfume instead of overwhelming it. For drinkers drawn to Cabernet-led, Old World-influenced reds with South African fruit at their core, this is a focused and polished expression.
The nose opens with subtle spicy oak, cedarwood, and a gentle violet note that gives the wine an aromatic lift. On the palate, red fruit takes the lead, carried by a savory thread that pulls the wine toward a firm, dry finish. Fine, integrated tannins give the wine shape without making it feel severe, and the length stays steady and composed. It would pair especially well with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck, or mushroom-based dishes where its savory profile and structural poise can settle naturally into the meal.
Still youthful, this is a wine with enough balance and tannic grip to reward further cellaring, though it should also show well now with time in the glass or a short decant.

This wine was made with a clear focus on precision and gentle handling. The grapes were hand sorted, then fermented as whole berries to preserve fruit purity and allow for a more measured extraction. Basket pressing further supported this restrained approach, helping maintain finesse in the tannin profile. The wine was then matured for 16 months in 60% new French oak barrels, adding subtle spice, cedar notes, and structural support.
