Description
Crafted from Tempranillo, Tannat, and a splash of Petite Sirah, this wine is a robust tribute to the great red blends of Spain, Portugal, and the South of France—reimagined in the Cape. Its bold tannin and dense core make it a perfect pairing for hearty meals or cellaring for 5–8 years to soften and evolve. Now available in the bold and generous magnum bottle, this is a wine for adventurers, fire-cooked feasts, and the stories that follow.
Once pressed, the wine was matured for 18 months in medium-toasted oak barrels, a crucial step that softens the tannins and layers in depth, complexity, and refined structure.
Winemaker: Anthony de Jager
Eager to explore a wider range of wines using grapes grown in optimal conditions, Charles Back abandoned the estate wine concept in the 1980s, choosing rather to “go where the terroir is”. Today, they are one of the few farms that proudly own all their own vineyards, with land in Paarl, Darling, Swartland and Stellenbosch.
