Description

La Motte Reserve Collection Cap Classique is a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sparkling wine made in a polished, traditional style, with enough lees influence to bring depth while keeping the wine bright and composed. As a non-vintage Cap Classique, it aims for consistency and balance rather than vintage variation, drawing on reserve wine to add breadth and complexity. The result is a bottle that feels celebratory, but also serious enough to hold attention at the table.

The nose opens with citrus, brioche, and roasted cashew, giving the wine both freshness and a gently savory edge. On the palate, the mousse is delicate and finely textured, carrying flavors of lemon meringue through a finish marked by refined length and a subtle mineral note. There is enough energy here to keep the wine lively, but also enough texture to make it especially well suited to oysters, smoked salmon, creamy canapés, roast chicken, or a cheese course where its freshness and autolytic character can work together naturally.

Ready to drink now, this is a Cap Classique that delivers finesse, poise, and a well-judged balance between fruit, lees character, and structure.
The fruit was sourced from vineyards across a range of soil types and climatic conditions, with all vines trellised for even ripening and careful canopy management. Grapes were harvested between 18° and 20° Balling and whole-bunch pressed, with each component fermented separately before blending.

The final blend, completed in 2023, included 20% reserve wine, half of which had been matured in older French oak barrels to add extra depth. After blending, the wine was sweetened, inoculated with cultured yeast, and bottled for secondary fermentation. It then spent 24 months on the lees before disgorgement and final corking under wire muzzle.

Situated in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley in South Africa’s Cape Winelands, La Motte is home to fine wines recognized internationally for their exceptional quality. With its picturesque setting, traditional cuisine, and historic charm, La Motte is an enchanting choice for those who appreciate the finer things in life.

La Motte was acquired in 1970 by the late Dr. Anton Rupert, an internationally respected industrialist who established a global business empire and was held in high regard as a committed conservationist. Dr. Rupert and his art-devoted wife, Huberte, also played an immense role in the preservation of art. While there has been a dedication to producing top-quality wine at La Motte since its acquisition by Dr. Rupert in 1970, the estate has also shown a distinct commitment to uplifting and empowering its people.

Environmental management is a high priority at La Motte and is factored into the long-term strategy as well as the daily running of the estate. Examples of environmental care include the protection of precious natural flora known as “fynbos” on the adjoining Wemmershoek Mountains and adherence to biological principles in the production of grapes, flowers, and essential oils. La Motte was one of the first wine estates to be awarded the coveted ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification.
