Muratie Melck's Red Blend 2022 is a Stellenbosch red made for easy enjoyment, but with enough care in the vineyard and cellar to give it real character. It sits in that useful middle ground between casual and considered, offering bright fruit, soft structure, and just enough oak influence to add shape without making the wine feel heavy. For drinkers looking for an approachable red with estate character and broad food appeal, this is a very easy bottle to recommend.
The palate is medium-bodied and supple, with red berry fruit at the center, a light note of white pepper for lift, and a subtle touch of dark chocolate from the oak. Smooth tannins keep the wine gentle and flexible, while the finish stays clean and balanced rather than overly rich. It would pair especially well with roast chicken, burgers, pizza, pasta with tomato-based sauces, or simple grilled meats, where its fruit and easy structure can work naturally alongside the food.
Already highly drinkable, this is the kind of red blend that works just as well at a relaxed dinner table as it does on its own in the glass.
The fruit for Melck’s Red was hand-harvested from selected vineyard blocks across the estate, with each variety fermented separately to preserve its individual character. Fermentation took place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and open-top fermenters, balancing fruit purity with gentle extraction. The wine was then matured for 16 months in seasoned French oak barrels, allowing subtle oak integration while keeping the fruit profile fresh and expressive.
