Description

The Fairview Riesling 2026 is a vibrant off-dry expression from the cool maritime vineyards of Darling, where Atlantic breezes preserve the variety's hallmark freshness and aromatic purity. Bright, approachable, and beautifully balanced, it showcases why Riesling is one of the world's most versatile food wines.

Pale green with a light yellow hue, the nose offers fragrant aromas of lemon, apricot, and delicate white flowers. The palate opens with a gentle natural sweetness before layers of lime, stone fruit, and citrus unfold across a refreshing backbone of lively acidity. The balance between crisp citrus freshness and residual sugar gives the wine remarkable purity and drinkability, while the cool Darling terroir provides the structure for further bottle development.

This Riesling is a natural match for Thai cuisine, Cape Malay curries, spicy Asian dishes, sushi, and creamy goat's cheese.
The fruit was harvested early in the morning at approximately 22.5° Balling from unirrigated vineyards planted on deep red Oakleaf soils outside Darling. Whole bunches were gently pressed before the juice settled for 48 hours.

Fermentation took place at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation was intentionally stopped before completion to retain the wine's natural fruit sweetness, creating its signature off-dry style while preserving freshness and varietal purity.

Fairview is one of South Africa’s most innovative and established wine producers, with a history at its Paarl estate dating back to 1693. Under the leadership of Charles Back, the winery follows a vineyard-focused philosophy, sourcing grapes from Cape regions particularly suited to each variety.

For this Riesling, fruit from the cool Darling region benefits from its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. Maritime influences help preserve natural acidity and encourage the slow, even ripening required for expressive, well-balanced Riesling.

Darling, South Africa

Darling is a small but distinctive South African wine region on the Cape West Coast, where Atlantic breezes and morning fog temper the summer sun. Many vineyards are dry-farmed as traditional bush vines, forcing their roots deep into the region’s weathered granite, clay and sandy soils. The resulting wines often combine concentrated fruit with freshness and a quietly savory edge. Sauvignon Blanc is a regional specialty, ranging from bright and citrus-driven to more textured, mineral styles. Chenin Blanc, Shiraz and Pinotage are equally worth exploring, particularly from older, low-yielding vineyards. Shop Darling wines to experience a less familiar side of the Cape: coastal, resilient and deeply connected to its old vines and farming heritage.
