Lanzerac Jonkershoek Reserve 2021 is a Cabernet-based Stellenbosch red blend shaped by the character of the Jonkershoek Valley, where structure, dark fruit, and spice come together in a distinctly regional style. This is a wine built with a classic backbone, but it does not feel rigid. Instead, it brings together ripeness, savory detail, and smooth tannins in a way that makes it both serious and approachable.
The nose opens with dark berries and spice, with the Cabernet core giving the wine its frame and depth. On the palate, notes of dark chocolate and ripe black fruit broaden the wine’s profile, while the texture stays polished through a long finish carried by smooth tannins. The blend has enough weight for richer dishes, making it a natural fit with roast lamb, grilled beef, braised short ribs, or hearty mushroom dishes where its spice and fruit can settle comfortably into the meal.
Already showing well, this is a red blend that should continue to develop with short- to mid-term cellaring, gaining further harmony as the oak and fruit knit more fully together.
The three varietals were fermented separately and matured individually in French oak before blending and bottling. All harvesting and pruning were done by hand, with careful handling throughout to protect fruit quality and ensure healthy grapes entered the cellar. This lot-by-lot approach allows each variety to develop its own character before being assembled into the final Cabernet-led blend.

For centuries, Lanzerac has been a true icon of South African Winelands. This graceful estate has played host to untold numbers of Stellenbosch residents, as well as visitors from home and abroad, for more than 300 years. Lanzerac's recorded history began in 1692 when then Governor of the Cape, Simon van der Stel, granted a piece of land in the pristine Jonkershoek Valley to Isaac Schrijver, an enterprising. Originally named Schoongezicht, Lanzerac changed hands several times, with each owner contributing to the legacy and heritage of this unique property.
While wine has been an integral part of this Estate since its beginning Lanzerac also holds significant historical value with all of the historical buildings representing distinctive examples of Cape Dutch architecture. Today the Estate covers an area of about 150 hectares, of these, 50 hectares consist of vineyards. Noble cultivars that include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Merlot, Pinotage, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot grace a variety of soil types and micro-climates.
