Description
The nose is perfumed and complex, with aromas of violet, freshly ground spice, and black pepper, layered with subtle herbal notes. On the palate, the wine is full and plush, showing bold dark fruit flavors supported by an energetic structure. The tannins are ripe yet grippy, giving the wine shape and aging potential, while the finish is long, balanced, and deeply satisfying.
A serious, food-driven Syrah, this wine pairs beautifully with slow-cooked meats, braised dishes, and rich winter fare.
A short pre-fermentation maceration of around 24 hours was followed by a cool fermentation, preserving fruit purity and balance. The wine was then pressed and matured for 24 months in French oak barriques (20% new), allowing for integration of tannins, spice, and texture while maintaining varietal expression.
Winemaker: Craig McNaught
In 2011, the owners were joined by their son, Craig McNaught, who took over the reigns as winemaker. The latest revelation at Stony Brook has been the introduction of Tempranillo vines to the property, comprising the only component in one of their critically-acclaimed wines, Ovidius.
