L'Avenir Single Block Pinotage 2022 is a focused Stellenbosch red built around fruit purity, measured oak, and the savory detail that defines serious Pinotage from the region. Sourced from a single vineyard block and selected from only the finest barrels, it combines generosity with precision, giving the wine both depth and a clear sense of place.
The nose opens with violets, potpourri, dried cranberries, and dark chocolate. On the palate, fresh cherry and gentle sweet spice are supported by textured richness and well-integrated oak. The fruit remains clear and energetic, while the tannins and barrel influence add shape without overwhelming the wine. It would pair well with grilled lamb, venison, roast pork, braised beef, or smoky barbecue dishes.
This is a structured, cellar-worthy Pinotage that is expressive now but should continue to gain complexity over the next several years.

The grapes were hand-sorted, destemmed, and lightly crushed before undergoing three days of cool maceration. Fermentation began naturally with indigenous yeasts and took place in both stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels. The wine then matured in 300L French oak barrels, approximately 15% of them new. Only the best 14 barrels were selected for the final blend, ensuring concentration, balance, and consistency.

L'Avenir estate was founded by Mauritian-born Marc Wiehe in 1992; prior to this, the land had been under vine since the days of Simon van der Stel. L'Avenir swiftly rose to icon status—the 1997 L'Avenir Chenin Blanc was ranked best in the country at that year’s Chenin Blanc Challenge; by 2004, no Pinotage had been named as frequently as L'Avenir among the top ten in the annual Top Ten Pinotage Competition.
After being acquired by Chablis-based Laroche and following a merger between Laroche and the Jeanjean family, L’Avenir now forms a part of AdVini—a family-owned wine producer with a focus on France and a footprint in Africa in the form of L’Avenir. Despite L’Avenir Estate only having been established in 1992, our soils have been under vine since the beginning of the Stellenbosch wine region. The majority of our vineyards have reached full maturity, resulting in naturally limited yields of the highest quality grapes.
