The Stony Brook “The J” 2025 is a thoughtful, small-production white blend that leans into texture, aromatics, and quiet complexity. Crafted from Viognier and Sémillon, this wine reflects a stylistic shift toward greater depth while maintaining freshness and purity.
The nose is perfumed and layered, showing apricot, orange blossom, and almond, with subtle hints of beeswax and spice adding intrigue. On the palate, the wine is textured yet supple, with Viognier bringing richness and warmth, while Sémillon adds structure and lift. Flavors of stone fruit and citrus carry through the mid-palate, supported by a gentle mineral edge and a fine phenolic grip. The finish is long, balanced, and quietly complex, with well-integrated oak adding a touch of toast.
This is a more contemplative white, rewarding time in the glass and pairing beautifully with fragrant, spice-driven dishes, seafood, and richly flavored cuisine.
Both varietals were gently whole-bunch pressed before fermentation in a combination of clay amphora (40%) and French oak hogsheads (60%), balancing purity with texture. The wine was then matured in these vessels for approximately 11 months, allowing for integration and development of complexity while preserving freshness and aromatic detail.
Winemaker: Craig McNaught
In 1995 the McNaught family purchased an old fruit farm, this property is now known as Stony Brook. With a strong focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon and Chardonnay, the McNaught family replanted the entire farm to vines and built a small cellar in which to produce the first wines under the Stony Brook label. As time has passed, the ideals of Stony Brook have remained firmly in place and the wines still reflect a strong sense of place and passion.
In 2011, the owners were joined by their son, Craig McNaught, who took over the reigns as winemaker. The latest revelation at Stony Brook has been the introduction of Tempranillo vines to the property, comprising the only component in one of their critically-acclaimed wines, Ovidius.
